Snack foods: improvements are possible without compromising sales.
Infographic created by the Observatoire de la qualité de l’offre alimentaire team.
The Food Quality Observatory analyzed the market of snack foods available in Quebec in 2020 and 2025. Here are some key findings:
- Snack foods that would have been required to display Health Canada’s nutrition symbol are purchased less frequently (-12 percentage points) than in 2020.
- Snack foods that have been reformulated since 2020 have reduced their saturated fat and sodium content while still accounting for the largest share of total sales (88%).
- In 2025, 49% of snack foods would have been required to display Health Canada’s nutrition symbol on the front of the package.
