Expertises
Dr. Guylaine Ferland’s research focuses on the determinants of nutritional status in older adults as they relate to brain and cognitive health. The team is interested in the physiological functions of vitamin K, its metabolism under normal and pathological conditions, and its role in anticoagulant therapy. Their research activities include both basic and clinical studies. More specifically, the topics studied include the role of vitamin K in brain function and cognition—mechanistic studies in animals and clinical interventions—the influence of vitamin K status on the stability of anticoagulant therapy in patients treated with warfarin sodium, and the nutritional and metabolic aspects of healthy cognitive aging.
