Pôle bioalimentaire Webinar: Food and reconciliation: working with indigenous communities
As part of our series of free monthly webinars, we invite you to discover the “Territorialized food systems” project, led by Professor Laurence Guillaumie of Université Laval.
The mission of the Pôle bioalimentaire, powered by the Institute for Nutrition and Functional Foods (INAF) and supported by the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ), is to catalyze innovation and collaboration in the biofood sector. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the cluster supports the development of sustainable and resilient food systems by mobilizing innovative solutions in seven priority areas.
Abstract
This presentation will address the development of Territorial Food Systems (TFS) in indigenous communities, through the perspective of a non-indigebousl researcher. Since 2017, Émilie Parent’s career has been built on a deep commitment to indigenous communities, particularly those of Opitciwan and Wemotaci. In Wemotaci, her work with the Ruche d’Art Kokomino has contributed to the establishment of an educational vegetable garden, community gardens and agri-food training. In Opitciwan, she has supported community garden and greenhouse projects. Her approach has developed from a perspective of collaboration and listening, aimed at supporting local agri-food initiatives. Over the course of her projects, she has learned to transform her approach to encourage the co-construction of knowledge, thus ensuring that her interventions are ethical and useful to communities, strengthening their decision-making, food and economic sovereignty. In this webinar, she will focus on the reflections needed to engage in agri-food projects with First Nations.
