The intestinal microbiota, that fascinating microscopic world we’ve harbored since birth, is closely linked to a number of health issues. Otherwise known as intestinal flora, our gut microbiota has been the subject of unprecedented discoveries in recent years. Some believe that this is nothing less than a turning point in the history of medicine.
During this online conference, professor and researcher André Marette will present the main impacts of the microbiota on health. In particular, he will discuss :
- Understanding the microbiota
- Links with chronic inflammation
- Links with cardio-metabolic diseases associated with obesity

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
André Marette is a full professor in the Department of Medicine at Université Laval and a researcher at the Institut universitaire de cardiologie et de pneumologie de Québec (IUCPQ). He is also a researcher at Université Laval’s Institute of Nutrition and Functional Foods (INAF).
André Marette‘s research has had a considerable impact. In particular, it has enabled experts in the field to gain a better understanding of the body’s inflammation mechanisms, and has paved the way for new avenues in the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. In addition, his scientific publications on obesity are among the most widely consulted on the subject.
André Marette’s projects benefit from the financial support of donors, including the Pfizer Research Fund on the Pathogenesis of Insulin Resistance and Cardiovascular Disease.
