Université Laval's Global Entrepreneurship Week, in collaboration with the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and the Institute of Nutrition and Functional Foods, offers you an interactive theme day on entrepreneurship in agriculture and food processing.

Description

From Earth to Table” offers a unique opportunity for anyone with an interest in the agri-food sector (student and university community, farm and food business, sector organization) to explore the challenges and successes encountered along their entrepreneurial journey.

This activity will take place both indoors and online (with Zoom). The activity is free, but registration is mandatory.

Schedule for the day :

10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.: Welcome of participants

10:30 am: Welcome by Denis Roy, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences

Agriculture morning | Presentations and discussions

  • Presentation of funding programs in the agricultural sector and continuing education at the FSAA by Xavier Desmeules, agr. in charge of partnerships and continuing education, FSAA
  • La relève agricole dans le secteur maraiche, by Virginie Bernier, agr, M.Sc. coordinator of Camp agricole, FSAA and Marc-André Demers, owner of Ferme des jeunes pousses
  • Entrepreneurship and farm management for an established business, by Nadia Déry, agr. coordinator of the Plateforme en entrepreneuriat agricole at the FSAA and Simon Plante, owner of Polyculture Plante

11:45 a.m.: Tour of FSAA greenhouses, by Laurence Hamel, agr. M. Sc., FSAA (this part will be in person only)

12:30 p.m.: Lunch and appetizer tasting (this part will be in person only) and networking lunch (there will be a MAPAQ kiosk with agronomist Sharon Boisvert, farm succession advisor)

1:30 pm: Food processing afternoon

2:45 pm: Introduction to edible insect production and the InScott project, by Mariève Dallaire-Lamontagne, agr. doctoral student in animal sciences

3:00 pm: Visit to the black soldier fly colony at the Laboratoire aquatique de recherche en sciences environnementales et médicales (LARSEM), by the Groupe de recherche en biotechnologies aquacoles (GREREBA) team and the Chaire de leadership en enseignement en production et transformation primaire d’insectes comestibles. (this part will be face-to-face only)
