Conference “The Major Themes”

INAF is pleased to invite you to this second edition under the theme: Lifestyle Habits and Sustainable Health: Eating Well, Moving More, Living Better.

What are “The Major Themes”?

With the goal of bringing our members together around each of INAF’s research themes, these interdisciplinary conferences are organized annually with the support of the theme director, a researcher member from that theme outside Université Laval, and an INAF student member. This activity also makes it possible to invite scientists from outside our network, both nationally and internationally, to enrich discussions around our complementary areas of expertise.

Conference description:

This year, INAF is offering a conference on Theme 3, “Diet, Health, and Well-Being,” on Monday, June 1, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. We will have the pleasure of traveling for this occasion to the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, as part of the Scientific Day of the Interdisciplinary Group for Applied Health Research (GIRAS), where three conferences will be presented around the theme “Lifestyle Habits and Sustainable Health: Eating Well, Moving More, Living Better.”

This conference will be held in a hybrid format so that all INAF members can take part.

Benefits:

INAF will cover travel expenses for members who wish to attend the event. Those who travel will also receive free access to the other activities of the GIRAS Scientific Day, as well as lunch (mandatory registration).

What is the GIRAS Scientific Day?

The GIRAS Scientific Day at Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) is an annual event that brings together researchers and students interested in lifestyle habits and health–related topics. It offers a unique opportunity to showcase members’ work, while also fostering networking, interdisciplinary exchanges, and the emergence of new collaborations.

Speakers’ biographies:

DIDIER BRASSARD:

Didier Brassard is a registered dietitian-nutritionist and a professor of nutrition at the Université du Québec à Trois‑Rivières. He completed postdoctoral fellowships at McGill University and the Université de Montréal. His research focuses on the intersection of aging and nutritional epidemiology, particularly the impact of adherence to the Canada Food Guide recommendations among older adults. His areas of expertise include the use of causal inference methods, as well as statistical modeling and the correction of measurement errors in dietary intake assessment.

Jean‑Michel Oppert

Jean‑Michel Oppert, MD, PhD, is Professor of Nutrition at the Faculty of Health, Sorbonne University, and a physician in the Department of Nutrition at Pitié‑Salpêtrière Hospital (AP‑HP, Paris). His research interests focus primarily on lifestyle factors—particularly physical activity and sedentary behavior in relation to diet—their effects on individual and population health, and their determinants, especially environmental and structural factors.

At the hospital level, he led the Department of Nutrition at Pitié‑Salpêtrière Hospital for 12 years, contributing to the development of multidisciplinary care pathways for patients living with obesity. His interest in a global, interdisciplinary, and international approach to health has led him to participate in numerous European research projects.

He is a founding member of the WHO‑supported HEPA‑Europe network (Health‑Enhancing Physical Activity), a former President of the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO), and currently serves as the French representative of the Global Observatory for Physical Activity (GoPA!). He is presently the Scientific Director of the Global Health Institute of the Sorbonne University Alliance.
