Expertises

Dr. Robert has developed a research program focusing on reproductive biology as well as animal genetics and genomics. His research interests are diverse. In particular, he has led several projects examining the impact of in vitro embryo culture conditions on gene expression and DNA methylation. He is also interested in ovarian physiology, particularly the intercellular connectivity between cumulus cells and the oocyte.

His program uses the bovine model to better understand the physiology of a large mammal subject to significant metabolic fluctuations and strongly affected by heat stress. He also uses the mouse model to study the impact of inactivating genes in the fragile X family on oogenesis and the development of premature ovarian failure.

In addition, he leads and collaborates on genetics and genomics projects involving various species, including cattle, pigs, caribou/reindeer, and bees. He is currently the director of Genovalia, a new non-human genomics data center at Laval University that offers data structuring, analysis, and visualization services for the academic, public, and private sectors.
