Financial support

• To support the recruitment of new graduate students co-supervised by teams of INAF member researchers.
• A non-renewable contribution of $7,500 toward the scholarship of a newly enrolled graduate student.
• For postdoctoral fellows, the amount will be paid to the researcher responsible for the fellow’s salary. These scholarship supplements are made possible through the support of the FRQ Nature and Technologies sector.

Eligibility Criteria

• The applicant must conduct their research under the supervision of a regular INAF member researcher and the co-supervision of another regular or associate INAF member.
• The research project must align with INAF’s scientific program.
• The applicant must begin their program in Summer 2026, Fall 2026, or Winter 2027.
• Master’s and doctoral applicants must not hold any named scholarship or salary award from a funding agency at the time of application (e.g., Mitacs, FRQNT, FRQS, CIHR, NSERC, etc.).
• Co-supervision involving researchers from at least two research institutions is considered an asset (see affiliated institutions: https://www.inaf.ulaval.ca/en/about/).
• Intersectoral co-supervision is considered an asset.
• Applications supervised by an early-career researcher (fewer than five years between appointment date and application deadline) are considered an asset.

Application Package

Applications must be submitted by the supervising researcher and include:

1. Applicant identification;
2. Identification of the supervisor (regular INAF member), co-supervisor, and any other researchers involved in the project, along with their affiliated institutions;
3. Program of study;
4. Project title and summary (maximum ½ page);
5. Program start term (Summer 2026, Fall 2026, or Winter 2027);
6. Impact of the scholarship on recruitment and the applicant’s research environment (justify the requested funding, maximum 1 page);
7. Planned financial support structure for the applicant’s salary or scholarship (maximum ½ page);
8. A motivation letter from the applicant, including a description of their research trajectory*;
9. Curriculum vitae;
10. Academic transcripts.

The application must be complete and submitted as a single PDF document. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Evaluation Criteria

Applications will be evaluated by a committee composed of INAF researchers who have not submitted applications under the competition.

• Relevance and added value of the project with respect to INAF’s scientific program (45 points);
• Justification and impact of the requested financial support (20 points);

• Quality of the applicant and ability to present their research trajectory (35 points).

The supervising researcher must submit the application no later than October 23, 2026 to eliane.picard-deland@fsaa.ulaval.ca. Only one application may be submitted per researcher.

*Research trajectory

Applicants are encouraged to highlight how personal and professional experiences have contributed to their academic journey (e.g., extracurricular involvement, awards received, etc.).

• To support the recruitment of graduate student members who have previously trained within the INAF network and who choose to continue their training under the supervision of another regular INAF researcher (Master’s to PhD or PhD to postdoctoral level).
• A non-renewable contribution of $2,000 to the scholarship of a student newly joining another research team. For postdoctoral fellows, the amount will be paid to the researcher responsible for the fellow’s salary.
• These supplements are made possible through the support of the FRQ Nature and Technologies sector.

Eligibility Criteria

• The applicant must conduct their research within a new research team (the student’s current research supervisor must differ from their previous supervisor) under the supervision of a regular INAF member.
• The research project must align with INAF’s scientific program.
• The applicant must begin their program in Summer 2026, Fall 2026, or Winter 2027.
• Master’s and doctoral applicants must not hold any named scholarship or salary award from a funding agency at the time of application (e.g., Mitacs, FRQNT, FRQS, CIHR, NSERC, etc.).

• To support student mobility among INAF partner institutions in the context of co-supervision arrangements and to encourage collaboration and mobility between research teams led by INAF researchers from different partner institutions.
• A non-renewable contribution of $2,000. The amount will be paid to the researcher responsible for the student’s salary.

Eligibility Criteria

• The master’s or doctoral student must be co-supervised by two INAF member researchers affiliated with two different partner universities or research institutions (list of affiliated institutions: https://www.inaf.ulaval.ca/en/about/).
• The student must be enrolled in the current term and plan to undertake a mobility period at an INAF-affiliated institution as part of their program.
• The research project must align with INAF’s scientific program.

Application Package

Applications must be submitted by the supervising researcher and include:

1. Applicant identification;
2. Identification of the supervisor (regular INAF member), co-supervisor (regular INAF member), and other researchers involved in the project, along with their affiliated institutions;
3. Program of study;
4. Project title and summary (maximum ½ page);
5. Description of the planned mobility project (target date, host partner institution affiliated with INAF, purpose of the mobility period, and expected outcomes). Justification of the requested funding (maximum 1 page);
6. A motivation letter from the applicant including a description of their research trajectory*;
7. Curriculum vitae;
8. Academic transcripts.
