The INAF Student Committee held its 1st Eating Disorders Awareness Day
12 April 2024
On Thursday, April 11, the 1st edition of an Eating Disorders Awareness Day at INAF brought together over 60 people. These participants had the opportunity to attend lectures by four experts on the subject and eight presentations of research work carried out by INAF student members.
For the first time, INAF’s dynamic Student Committee organized an Eating Disorders Awareness Day: a great success! The aim of this scientific activity was to showcase the research carried out by INAF members to understand eating behaviours and better intervene with people suffering from eating problems and other associated disorders. The event also aimed to raise awareness and educate the next generation of nutrition and psychology students about the reality of people with eating disorders, and to break down certain prejudices and stereotypes held by society towards these individuals.
Over 60 people were registered for the day, which featured a fine program thanks to the participation of four experts in the field:
- Catherine Bégin, D. Psy., Director of CEPIA, INAF, Professor, School of Psychology, Université Laval
- Andrée-Ann Dufour Bouchard, P. Dt., M. Sc. project manager at ÉquiLibre
- Noémie Carbonneau, D. Psy. INAF, Professor, Department of Psychology, Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR)
- Marilou Côté, PsyD, Centre NUTRISS, CEPIA, INAF, clinical psychologist and professor, Department of Foundations and Practices in Education, Université Laval.
Eight INAF student members also presented their research work during the day, in poster form and orally. The event concluded with an introductory workshop on mindfulness and stress management, led by Carmen Pedneault, psychologist at Université Laval’s Centre d’aide aux étudiants.
It’s important to mention the great participation of INAF members affiliated with UQTR: ten people came to attend this scientific day. Many of them were able to visit INAF’s facilities at the Pavillon des Services de l’Université Laval for the first time, and network with other Institute members interested in their field of expertise. The day thus contributed to the development of a sense of belonging among INAF student members from outside the Quebec City region, and to closer ties between research teams working on this theme.
Congratulations to the winners of the student presentation contest: Carolanne Verdon, PhD student in psychology under the supervision of Noémie Carbonneau for best oral presentation and Maude Plouffe, PhD student in psychology under the supervision of Marie-Pierre Gagnon-Girouard for best scientific poster.
