Are Local Foods Healthier? – Overall Nutritional Quality and Presence of Health Canada’s Nutrition Symbol on Local and Non-Local Prepackaged Foods Available in Quebec

Scientific poster created by Jolène Fournier, Nutrition student under the supervision of Marie-Ève Labonté.

Local foods are often perceived by consumers as being healthier than their non-local counterparts. However, this assumption remains understudied, particularly for prepackaged foods, which are increasingly popular among Quebecers. The objective of this study is to assess the associations between the “local” nature of prepackaged foods available in Quebec and two indicators of their nutritional quality: overall nutritional quality and the theoretical presence of Health Canada’s front-of-package nutrition symbol.
